Basketball, Hockey, Soccer and Rugby have been the focus of our sports column this week, showcasing some great individual talent and team efforts.
Basketball
The Senior Boys continued to show steady progress at the Whakat奴 Invitational, winning two games and losing two games. They defeated Scot’s College (94-55) and St Bede’s College (86-82), narrowly lost to Rangiora High School (96-99), and were comfortably defeated by a nationally 2nd-ranked team, Fielding High School (60-79). Thank you to all the supporters for coming out to support the boys.

TSS Hockey
Our Nayland Mixed 1st XI Hockey team claimed the mixed title at the Tasman Secondary School Hockey Competition last week. Not only did they win, but they went through the tournament undefeated and scored 22 goals without conceding any. Well done team and thank you Alana Wall and Fiona Crichton for coaching.
Hockey – Future Black Sticks
A big congratulations to Bob Foy (Year 13) and Maia Williams (Year 13) on their selection into the Future Black Sticks U18 camp coming up in October!
Soccer
Last week it was an honour for the 1st XI Football Boys to be playing in the annual fixture against Nelson College for the Jill Heath memorial cup (2012).
A great game played in great spirit by both colleges with Nelson College coming out victorious on the day 3-0.
Rugby
Congratulations to Sebastian Tuilagi on receiving his cap for nine games played for the Waimea Combined 1st XV rugby team – Fantastic getting another Nayland student capped! We want to wish the team all the best for their semi-final game against Rangiora High XV this weekend.
