Two 国产麻豆精品 students were selected to exhibit at Te Ringa Toi annual Maori Art Competition held at Te Papa Museum.
国产麻豆精品 would like to congratulate art students Lucy Mahuika and Zahrlis Davis-Awarangi who were selected to exhibit at Te Ringa Toi annual M膩ori art competition, held at Te Papa Museum.
Ringa Toi is an annual exhibition that showcases the artwork of secondary school students with a focus on Toi M膩ori and Pacific Arts at Excellence level. Lucy was a winner in her category Toi Matihiko, digital print category .
The students attended the opening with their whanau and art teacher, Diana Maskill. They also had the opportunity to participate in a workshop conducted by the competition judge, Mr. G.
鈥淚 am so proud of their achievements and the artworks that express their cultural identity, values and passions. To see Lucy acknowledged with an award in her category was very exciting and well deserved. Zahrlis is already doing commissions and is a skilled t膩 moko artist. The exhibition includes a range of M膩ori art forms in the following seven categories:

Toi Wharepora (contemporary and traditional weaving forms)

Toi Whakairo (carving)

Toi Matihiko (digital print where the reproduction processes have been completed by computer)

Toi Matatuhi (printmaking such as intaglio)

Toi Waituhi (paint, ink, and drawing)

Toi Matarau (shaping and fashioning)

Toi Whakaahua (photography with no digital manipulation)

Kaupapa Pasifika (Pasifika artwork).
Ringa Toi is recognised as a vehicle to enhance student engagement, achievement and encourage retention at school. It also provides a platform to advance the use of m膩tauranga M膩ori and Pacific knowledges and is a tool to accelerate M膩ori and Pacific learner success.
Each year over 80 artworks are submitted from 膩konga around Aotearoa. Artworks in the exhibition are judged based on the above categories and awards are presented for the Highly Commended and Commended winners. Visitors to the exhibition can also vote for the People鈥檚 Choice Award recipient.

Category: Toi Matihiko, digital print category. Winner: Commended
Artist statement: The whai is seen as a kaitiaki, which protects the areas where shellfish are harvested. This artwork uses puhoro, koru, mangopare and manaia.
Zahrlis Davis-Awarangi
(Ngati Kahungunu)
Artwork title: Hami Utiera
Artist statement: This design was a commission for an T膩ne that symbolises his background. In this piece I drew his Mataora to show his first steps of his journey. In this piece I have used Puhoro, and Mangopare designs.
