We are thrilled to announce that Wendy, one of our talented students, has been awarded the prestigious Sir Robert Jones Scholarship.
This scholarship is specifically designed to support young women from refugee backgrounds who aspire to complete a university degree but may face financial barriers in achieving their goals.
The scholarship aims to relieve the burden of significant student debt that many students encounter, providing a clear path to graduation from a New Zealand university or polytechnic. In Wendy’s case, the scholarship will cover all her course fees starting from next year (Year 2) until she completes her teacher training. Additionally, if Wendy chooses to live in a hall of residence, her accommodation costs will also be covered for two years, offering her substantial financial relief during her studies.
This generous support will allow Wendy to focus fully on her teacher training without the stress of financial constraints. However, an important condition of the scholarship is that Wendy must continue to achieve well in her studies, a challenge we know she will meet with her characteristic determination.
It鈥檚 worth noting that due to changes in the government鈥檚 fees-free policy, 2024 school leavers will now be eligible to apply for the 2025 scholarship. This opportunity will no doubt provide life-changing support to future applicants, just as it has for Wendy.
We are incredibly proud of Wendy鈥檚 accomplishments and wish her continued success as she embarks on this exciting journey toward becoming a teacher!
