Volleyball, Road Cycling, and Basketball have been the focus of our sports column this week, showcasing some great individual talent and team efforts.
Volleyball – Roy Titheridge Tournament
Nayland had two girls teams and our Junior A Boys competing in the Roy Titheridge in Blenheim over 2-3 November, a seeding tournament for the Tasman Junior Champs. Our Junior A Girls played some outstanding volleyball winning all seven games taking 1st place. The B Girls placed 7th and the Boys 4th in some exciting close games.
Volleyball – TSS Junior Champs
Last weekend the Nayland teams had a fantastic time at the Tasman Secondary School Junior Volleyball Champs. The A Girls claimed Gold and No 1 seed for South Island’s. The A Boys placed 3rd and qualified for Division 1 and the B Girls placed 8th.
Well done to Mia O’Regan, Sadie Harwood and Harriet Downs for being selected in the tournament team.
TSS Road Cycling
Congratulations to Josephine Tappenden and Mattias Richardson who recently competed at the Tasman Secondary School Road Cycling Champs. Josephine placed first in the U19F time trial and road race and Mattias placed third in the U17M time trial and road race.
Basketball
Mr Ben Sheat and Emilia Ainley have spent the week in Canberra with the NZ U15 Basketball teams to compete in the Oceanias, hoping to qualify for the Asian tournament. So far the results are as follows:

NZ U15 girls 2 wins against Guam and Samoa / 1 loss Australia. They made it to the semi-finals and with a win against Samoa this afternoon they are now through to the finals!
Tomorrows final is scheduled for 7.30PM AEDT / 9.30PM NZT

NZ U15 boys 2 wins against Samoa and Tahiti / 1 loss Australia. They are through to the semi-finals and playing Tonga tonight.

Keshia and Nia Linyard
Congratulations to Keshia (Year 11) and Nia (Year 9) Linyard who had a stellar day out on the water on Saturday 2 November. The 3.2km Big Tahuna Open Water Swim doubled as the 2024 South Island Mako Secondary School Open Water Championships.
